Press Release: New Special Recognition Award for Powys Businesses
Following a request from Powys County Councillor Amanda Jenner, a special recognition award will be introduced at this year's Powys Business Awards to recognise those businesses who have gone the extra mile during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In her written question to Councillor James Evans, the Powys County Council portfolio holder for Economic Development, Amanda wrote:
"Over the last few years, we have seen some incredible actions by local businesses who have done great things for their communities. We have also seen businesses donate generously to help during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a sponsor to Powys’ Business Awards, will the Council work with the local Mid Wales Chamber, and encourage the introduction of a new award to recognise the efforts of businesses in this way."
Responding to Councillor Amanda's question, Councillor James Evans wrote:
"As you rightly point out, this year we have seen many businesses rise to the challenge and make a valuable contribution to the Covid response and provide support for communities. we have agreed to include a special recognition award in this year’s awards."
Commenting on the decision, Amanda Jenner said,
“Many businesses have worked so hard to support their communities this year in how they’ve responded to Covid-19. We’ve seen donations, diversification, local deliveries set up, thorough safety procedures introduced and much more.
“These businesses are the heart of our rural towns and they deserve to be publicly commended for all they have done in such a challenging period. I am so pleased my suggestion to introduce a new award to recognise this has been taken up.”
"I will now be calling on those who run the West Wales Business Awards to do the same so that those businesses which have supported their communities across the rest of West Wales, will also be publicly praised for their actions."
